September 27, 2005

Dr. Roger King, Associate Dean of MSU's Bagley College of Engineering and Giles Distinguished Professor working in the GeoResources Institute, has been invited to be the keynote speaker at the ESA-EUSC 2005: Image Information Mining - Theory and Application to Earth Observation Conference to be held at the European Space Research Institute, Frascati, Italy, on October 5-7, 2005.

Dr. King's talk will be entitled Semantics-Enabled Framework for Knowledge Discovery from Earth Observation Data Archives.

ESA (European Space Agency) and EUSC (European Union Satellite Centre) are coordinators of the conference where the objectives are to review the state of the art and identify R&D requirements on Image Information Mining topics mainly for the Earth Observation domain:
  • Information extraction from large / complex image data sets
  • Image syntax, semantics and annotations
  • Multidimensional indexing and retrieval of heterogeneous information
  • Information mining and knowledge discovery
  • Knowledge sharing and ontology
  • Adaptive, mediating interfaces
  • Advanced non-conventional methods and technologies
  • Evaluation methods, experiments and results
  • Applications and use - experience and feedback
