GRI Student Worker Selected as Miss MSU

Sally Steen, a student worker under the direction of Chuck Hill, Associate Director of the GeoResources Institute, was recently crowned Miss Mississippi State University 2005. Sally will represent MSU this summer at the Miss Mississippi Pageant in Vicksburg. This will be her second time competing in the Miss Mississippi Pageant. Prior to attending MSU, Sally attended Northeast Mississippi Community College. A senior, majoring in International Business, Sally is working towards a degree in Spanish, as well as a degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in banking and finance. Sally is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Golden Key International Honor Societies. She has been a President's Scholar at MSU, as well as at NEMCC. Sally's platform issue is ¿Como se Dice? : English as a Second Language/Bilingual Education.

Sally has established ESL programs in two elementary schools in Mississippi, and aims to establish programs in more Mississippi schools during her reign as Miss MSU. Sally also volunteers with the Alcorn Hispanic Ministry in Corinth. She has spent countless hours teaching English to Spanish-speaking children, so that they may be able to succeed in school. After graduation in May 2006, Sally plans to pursue a career in finance within a multinational company and to obtain her pilot's license.

Sally, the daughter of Don and Cindy Steen of Corinth, Mississippi, is actively with walking and racking horse shows.
