Mississippi Technology Transfer Center Honored for Excellence

Hancock County - In a ceremony held April 29, 2004, at the Mississippi State Capitol, Rep. Mark Formby, District 108, made public the passage of House Concurrent Resolution No. 85. It recognizes the Mississippi Technology Transfer Center (MTTC), located in the Stennis Space Center, as a Center of Excellence in Geospatial Technologies. The MTTC qualified for this designation due to the fact that 70% of its space is devoted to research and commercialization in geospatial technologies.

MSU's GeoResources Institute is located in the MTTC, along with three other state universities, 22 companies and three non-profit organizations. The Mississippi Enterprise for Technology (MsET) is one of those non-profit organizations.

"Over the past decade, Mississippi has focused diligently on posturing itself as a national leader in geospatial technologies," said Greg Hinkebein, president and CEO of MsET. "The advancement and application of new technologies in government and commercial products have always been important to the United States."

MsET was established in 1995, with the Mississippi Development Authority, NASA and institutions of higher learning in the state. It is dedicated to creating high-skill, high-wage jobs in Mississippi.
