February 27, 2004

Starkville - The GRI has partnered with TVA, on a proposal to Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and Environmental Protection Agency Region IV entitled, "Industrial Site Conservation Design Principals - a Demonstration and Regional Guidebook Initiative - American Eurocopter Site. Other cooperators are: Golden Triangle Regional Airport Authority, Mississippi Development Authority, Appalachian Regional Commission, Mississippi Association of Supervisors, Pine Ridge Marketing, LLC, CH2Mhill, and the Southeast Watershed Forum. The GRI will coordinate water resource monitoring at the site and provide input to the regional guidebook.

Project kick-off was on February 27, 2004, when GRI officials attended a briefing held recently at the Golden Triangle Regional Airport to announce the cooperative efforts of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Tennessee Valley Authority to promote best practices in industrial site development work. The briefing showcased environmentally-responsible site design and development practices incorporated in the American Eurocopter project.

EPA Regional Administrator Jimmy Palmer and TVA Chairman Glenn McCullough, Jr. outlined the efforts underway to promote actions taken by many organizations in conjunction with American Eurocopter to facilitate the incorporation of environmentally-friendly site design concepts on the GTRA property, and how these steps can be replicated by other economic development agencies in the future.
