David Shaw, former director of GRI and Mississippi State's Vice President for Research and Economic Development, has been selected by Governor Haley Barbour to serve on a commission which will study the impacts of the BP oil spill and develop a long-term recovery plan for the Gulf region.
The Mississippi Gulf of Mexico Commission will consist of a 34-member board of scientists and business leaders with representatives of state and local governments serving as ex-officio members. The commission will work closely with the Gulf of Mexico Alliance and various state agencies to develop a plan which will be submitted to Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, former governor of Mississippi and head of Gulf Coast recovery efforts.
